How does your light shine?

Jesus is the light as we can see from the following verses in John's first letter.
John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
John 1:6  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
John 1:7  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
John 1:8  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
John 1:9  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
John 1:10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
John 1:11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:15  John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
John 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
John 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ

Luke 8:16  No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

Jesus is the light and when we look at Luke 8:16 we see three ways that we can display the light that has been given to us:
1. It can be hidden. We are not to hide the light which we might do if we are ashamed of the gospel or have sin in our life.

2. We can allow it to just shine. I believe this is how most christians (myself included) have displayed the light. I only speak up when other people bring up the gospel and being honest I would have to say that I've done a poor job of it.

3. We put the light on a candlestick and make it visible to all. This is what God wants us to do. How do we do this? We can do this by seizing any and every situation to present the gospel to everyone we meet. First to the unbeliever who needs to hear about what Jesus did when he went to the cross for us. Secondly to the believers who can be encouraged by us and because of this their faith and love can increase.

Let all glory be to God our Father and to his son Jesus the Christ.

Love,
Evert
